Do you too, as a Christian, try every year to get Christmas cards with a text message wishing the recipient "a blessed Christmas"? If so, you probably do not need to be told how many shops you have to perambulate on this mission, or how much frustration is likely to build up over the years.

You find quantities of cards saying "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Christmas" (as if Christmas were some kind of carnival event), but cards saying "a blessed Christmas" are hardly to be had, unless you order them in advance. And even then it is not always possible, as I know from years of experience.

But of course you can’t blame the shops for this. They are just doing business in the only way they can – they stock what people are actually going to buy. And there are very few people who in fact want a "blessed Christmas", as the owner of a stationery store confided in me just recently. Perhaps that is the very reason why, in so many families at Christmas, the "family blessing" is conspicuously out of kilter, and the Christmas celebration is just the time for a good old family row.

Evidently our Catholic brethren do not harbor any such concerns. They are equally indifferent to a "blessed Christmas", remaining content with a "Happy" or a "Merry Christmas", but of course they have good reason for this - preferring to focus on the question of "How do other religions celebrate?" (Diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt).

Now this is something new, don’t you think? How do people like the Islamists, the Taliban or the IS fighters celebrate? – You think this enterprise borders on absurdity? Well, I have to admit that just a few years ago I would have shared your opinion.

But since the "New Tolerance" has made such inroads in our countries as well, I no longer feel quite so sure. Under this banner, as we know, gays and lesbians can get married (in church!) and can even adopt children, without the legislature having the least bit of concern over the question whether these children, when they are grown, will themselves be happy about this decision, which diverges so widely and fundamentally from the tenets of our social system.

I don’t want to make a big issue of it at this point – but isn’t it actually quite astonishing how in comparable situations there is immediately a great song and dance about human rights, when in the present case nobody complains about the human right with which every child is endowed by nature - the right to have genuine father of the male and mother of the female sex? Might we not expect to see, in 18 years" time or so, a wave of litigation against the state that has passed this law?

Above all today – when "nature" is thought capable of so much, and practically all that is good is ascribed to her, from the coming into being of the universe through to the development of the human race! Not to mention a whole lot of egregious "miracles", for which nature should really have long since received a Nobel prize. But in this case – in the question of parenthood - we are to suppose that nature made a mistake? Impossible! – I would incline, myself, to the assumption that here it"s human beings who make mistakes, not nature!

Just to avoid giving the wrong impression here – I don’t have anything, fundamentally, against gays and lesbians. But when, as happened recently, a lesbian journalist admits in the US media that "We homosexuals want to redefine marriage radically with a view to finally eliminating it", that is the point where my sympathy runs out.

Gays and lesbians can live in our society in any way they please. But they can’t prescribe to the majority of the population, whose sexual proclivities are normal, that they must adapt their sexual morality and ethical principles to those whose proclivities are abnormal – the homosexuals, that is.

In his creation God created human beings as male and female. In the course of evolution some of them mutated into gays and lesbians. As long as these homosexuals accept and respect the majority heterosexual society and its fundamental tenets, based on the principle of majority democracy, we too – the members of society with normal tendencies – should accept and respect this homosexual minority. But not any longer!

But to get back now to the question posed by the Catholic Church - "How do other religions celebrate?" When it comes to interreligious ecumenism, the Catholic Church has already made considerable progress. At the Waldzell Meeting in 2007, Catholic representatives joined with representatives of Judaism and Buddhism in agreeing that these religions are all just different paths to salvation (!).

The spokesman for the Catholic Church, Benedictine Father David Steindl-Rast (Austria/USA) made it very clear in his pronouncement.

He stated that "our religion, like any other, is a gate through which we go to the last."

So it is presumably the Catholic religion which this Catholic priest here declares to be a "gate" – seeing that we Christians have been told, by our Lord Jesus Christ:

Jn 14,6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. Jn 14, 6;

And the representative of the Jewish community of faith likewise, the President of the International Jewish Committee for Interreligious Consultations, Rabbi David Rosen, agreed with this interpretation of Father Steindl-Rast"s, in making the following confession of faith (an astonishing one in the eyes of any adherent of the Mosaic religion):

"I do not believe that there is only one path. When God speaks to us in so many different ways, there have to be different paths."

Although the Mosaic religion, as we know, stands for the fundamental principle that the Lord alone is God, here too we suddenly find a startling multiplicity of paths.

Deut 6,4 "Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! Deut 6, 4;

So it remained for the representative of Islam, Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, President of Al-Azhar University in Cairo and a Member of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, to set a period to this sudden outbreak of the general homogenization of faith, with his quite unambiguous utterance:

"This diversity, willed by God, entails the consequence for human beings that they are different from one another in their religions and fundamental principles of faith, and will continue to differ right up to the Last Day."

Buddhism, finally, was represented by one of its most prominent members – the Dalai Lama, the supreme head of Tibetan Buddhism. He, of course, had no problem at all with this view of things – since, after all, in his religion there isn’t a God to whom he could be responsible. And in fact he made capital of the occasion in drawing out the consequences of this "leveling strategy" for the benefit of the audience:

"Our religions have many things in common: the practice of love, compassion, forgiveness, tolerance, moderation, simplicity and self-discipline (as with the celibacy practiced by nuns and monks of the Catholic Church). So there are many similarities, but the philosophy is different. Some, the Christians for instance, believe in a God; others, like we Buddhists, do not. But the object is the same – to strengthen the enthusiasm with which these values are put into practice."

It is perfectly correct, as the Dalai Lama says, that "our religions have many things in common". Of course the differences should have been pointed out, not just by the Islamic representative, but also and above all by the representatives of Judaism and of the Catholic church. But some hope

I am speaking here intentionally about the "Catholic Church", as this view of things cannot possibly apply to the true Christian congregation (not including, of course, those who are Christian only in name). As the statement of our Lord’s in Jn 14,6, quoted earlier, already shows – "I am the way, and the truth, and the life" – "different paths" are not to be found in Christianity.

This statement by the Son of God, by contrast with the doctrine of the Catholic Church (which finds room for "Mary" and the dead "saints"), quite simply excludes any possibility of other "mediators" or religions. Without any doubt at all, it amounts to a claim to sole representation before God. And as we can see, it is precisely this which distinguishes and divides the Catholic religion from the true Christian religion.

Whereas Paul and the Lord himself confirm:

1Tim 2,5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 1Tim 2, 5;

Jn 14,6 Jesus *said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. Jn 14, 6;

- the Marian apparitions of the Catholic Church (e.g. in Rome in 1977) urge Catholics differently:

"You must use me as a holy and unique resource, in order to reach God and bring souls to me." [1]

- and so it is altogether evident where these souls are going to end up.

Likewise the Marian apparitions in Medjugorje promulgate the familiar message, in a series of public communications continuing from 1981 through the 1990s:

So although, as the Son of God and the entire New Testament testify, human beings can only come to God through Jesus Christ, the "Mary" of the Roman Catholic Church asserts in these apparitions that she is the sole mediatrix between God and man.

This is clearly a lie. And when Paul states in the passage quoted above (1Tim 2,5), "For there is... one mediator... between God and men, the man Christ Jesus", and Jesus Christ states in Jn 14,6, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life", then this "Mary" cannot possibly have been sent by God.

But if these spirit beings which claim to be Mary, the dead mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, do not have the Spirit of God dwelling within them, it follows that these apparitions of "Mary" of the Catholic Church must necessarily be manifestations of the demonic world and so should be rejected with the utmost rigor.

Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field are they, they cannot speak; they must be carried, because they cannot walk!

Jer 10,2 Thus says the LORD, "Do not learn the way of the nations, And do not be terrified by the signs of the heavens Although the nations are terrified by them; 10,3 For the customs of the peoples are delusion; Because it is wood cut from the forest, The work of the hands of a craftsman with a cutting tool.
10,4 "They decorate it with silver and with gold; They fasten it with nails and with hammers So that it will not totter. 10,5 "Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field are they, And they cannot speak; They must be carried, Because they cannot walk! Isa 8,19 When they say to you, "Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter," should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living? Isa 8,19;

The real Mary, the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, is – like all the other "saints" of the Catholic Church – dead. Her spirit sleeps in the kingdom of the dead, and waits, with all other deceased persons, for the resurrection and rebirth.

Like all the other dead, she too, after the Resurrection and at the Last Judgment, will stand before her Son"s glorious throne. And there she in person will condemn these impure spirits who have deceived people in her name and led them to damnation.

But she will also condemn the Catholic Church and all Catholics who have allowed these spirits to make an impact, and have failed to refute and oppose their deception in the light of the Bible. She will convict all popes and all cardinals and bishops of lying, because they have hypocritically prayed in her name and to her, although they were able to recognize from the Bible, which is the basis of the Christian faith, that we are only permitted to pray to Almighty God and to his Son Jesus Christ.

Although Jesus Christ died, as the redeeming sacrifice before God, for the sins of all human beings, every human being must still accept this redeeming sacrifice personally. Only then can they claim any benefit from this vicarious sacrifice of the Son of God at the Last Judgment, as having been actually offered for their own sins. Anyone who does not believe in Jesus Christ remains under the wrath of God and will go to damnation.

All godless persons – as well as every Jew, Muslim, Buddhist or Catholic who does not believe in Jesus Christ – will be condemned by the Son of God at the Last Judgment. Not because they have sinned – seeing that we have all sinned - but because they have failed to accept this free-of-charge vicarious redeeming sacrifice of the Son of God for their own sins.

I recently spoke to a Catholic who proudly pointed out that he always has religious literature on his bedside table, which he always reads when he has trouble sleeping. When I asked whether his religious literature actually included a Bible, however, he had to answer in the negative.

By way of an apology, he advanced the usual argument of Catholics, whenever the Bible is in question: "I have struggled through the Bible, but I had major problems with the Old Testament". We may well suppose that he, as a Catholic, must also have problems with the New Testament, indeed with the New Testament above all – if he has actually read it, that is.

Jesus Christ divides the world.

Jesus Christ divides the world. And many people have an inner block when it comes to this topic. You can talk to them about anything else, even about religion – but when it is a matter of Jesus Christ, they quickly change the subject, or excuse themselves because they have urgent business to attend to.

Perhaps, of course, this could be connected with the fact that the unbeliever cannot admit that he or she is guilty before God. Actually they don’t want to talk about God or Jesus Christ at all, but for the sake of keeping the peace they don’t opt out of the discussion outright.

So what people like to do is "go with the flow", and not rub people up the wrong way, either on the one side or on the other. But this is not a good philosophy of life! – not for life, and still less for faith. And yet today we see the world is full of these "chameleons". In honesty, they ought to decide either for the one side or for the other.

I think the problem lies – at least for the Catholics – in the fact that the Catholic Church, in its avarice and lust for power, has disseminated so many lies over the last two thousand years. One of the reasons for this is of course that it has abandoned the Bible, which is the basis of Christianity. But another reason is its constant efforts to hold onto power.

Today this goes on by money laundering and speculation in the Vatican bank. In the past it was by deceiving its own brethren in the faith, as for example with the offer of "indulgences" for their sins, with the "eucharist", "Mary" and so on. In the Catholic Church everything – really everything - is based on deception.

You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth

2Mo 20,4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 20,5 "You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 20,6 but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. Ex 2ß, 4- 6;

That of course is a big problem for the Catholic Church – as of course it has all those statues of the "saints", and of "Mary" in particular, in its churches, and Catholics have been told that they have to worship these idols. If anyone were to get the idea of actually reading the Bible, that would be a pretty state of affairs!

Which is why first of all, in the Council of Valencia (1229), the Bible was declared to be "dangerous literature" and placed on the index of forbidden books(!!). Later on, when it could no longer be kept from the world, the Bible was released again.

But this second Commandment, all the same, was deleted from the Catholic bibles - and that remains the case to the present day! And because this would have resulted in only nine Commandments, and everyone knew that there have to be Ten Commandments, they quite simply divided the tenth Commandment in two – so that there were ten of them once more.

And so today when you go into a Catholic Church, you may well think you are entering a temple of idols. Every side altar has a different statue of a saint - and even on the main altar there is the idol "Mary", large as life, with the little Jesus child on her arm. And in front of her we see that famous and familiar figure – "old Grandma" on her knees praying for her grandchildren.

Old Grandma doesn’t know that God the Almighty has also said, in his second Commandment: "For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers (and the mothers!) on the children, on the third and fourth generation of those who hate me". She doesn’t know about this, because she hasn’t ever read the Bible. But all the same this promise applies to her as well. So what she does results in a curse on her grandchildren, even to the fourth generation.

But she too could be saved, if she were to come to faith in the true Jesus Christ and would accept his vicarious sacrifice for her sins. But that too is denied to the Catholics by their church. The Son of God, and future judge of all human beings of this world, is presented in a prettified version, as a blonde boy with curly hair and blue eyes.

This is perhaps one of the worst dishonesties of all on the part of the Catholic Church, because it criminally exploits people"s instinctive love of little children in order to obscure the true path for them and lead them onto the path of error. The Son of God is scaled down, becoming the "Child Jesus", reduced to an "appendage" of the glorious "Queen of Heaven".

So they are both idols – both the "Child Jesus" and the "Queen of Heaven", who herself is sleeping in the realm of the dead and at her resurrection will condemn these idolatrous images along with those who have worshiped them.

She will then – like all other human beings who have ever lived – stand before the throne of the Universal Judge, her Son Jesus, and they will both show up the Catholic Church for what it really is – the biggest idolatrous deception that has ever existed on earth.

Anyone who wants to pray to the real Jesus doesn’t need any "figures" for the purpose. They just need to come to the true faith. In every correctly believing human being, Jesus Christ and the Father as well are manifest in person. We have the promise that both the Son and the Father are present in those human beings who believe in them and love them.

If anyone loves Me, My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.

Jn 14,23 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. Jn 14,23;

To offer a kind of realistic contrast to the orgy of Catholic kitsch described above, we can now contemplate – purely as visual presentation, and not of course as an idolatrous image! – the sculpture which an Italian sculptor has reconstructed on the basis of the Turin Shroud.

Scientists at the Research Centre of ENEA (the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) in Frascati spent five years studying the Turin Shroud. In their final report, presented in 2010, they come to the conclusion that the features of the image printed on the shroud (which shows the bodily imprint of a crucified man, and has been venerated for centuries by the faithful as the gravecloth of Christ, while being regarded by critics as an elaborate swindle) cannot be reproduced even with the most modern technological resources.

New analysis dates the Turin Shroud to the first century after all (and refutes radiocarbon 14 dating).

In a new book Giulio Fanti, Professor of Mechanical and Thermal Research at the University of Padua, and journalist Saverio Gaeta present the latest research findings on the Turin Shroud. The linen cloth venerated as a relic shows what appears to be the photographic imprint of a crucified man, and has been regarded by the Catholic Church as the gravecloth of Christ. Research into the age of the cloth in the 1980s dated it to the Middle Ages, implying that it was a forgery, but doubts have been raised about the former study, which now seem to have been confirmed. According to Professor Fanti, the linen does actually date from the first century.

The three-dimensional sculpture of the bodily image of the man on the Turin Shroud

Based on the image of the Shroud, the Italian sculptor Professor Dr. Luigi Enzo Mattei has now reconstructed a true-to-scale three-dimensional sculpture, using the most modern optical and technical equipment.

Now this is something rather different, isn’t it, from the "Child Jesus" of the Catholic church. This is an image of reality, and in my belief it is a reconstruction of the body of the real Jesus of Nazareth – just as he was handed over by the Jews to be crucified, and as he was crucified by the godless Romans. But of course it is just an image, and not the reality, and so should not be worshiped either.

Before his death our Lord Jesus Christ addressed the following prayer to the Father for all those who would come to believe in him:

Jn 17,1 Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, 17,2 even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life. 17,3 "This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 17,4 "I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do. 17,5 "Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

17,6 "I have manifested Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world; they were Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 17,7 "Now they have come to know that everything You have given Me is from You; 17,8 for the words which You gave Me I have given to them; and they received them and truly understood that I came forth from You, and they believed that You sent Me. 17,9 "I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom You have given Me; for they are Yours; 17,10 and all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them. 17,11 "I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are. Jn 17, 1-11;

I pray to our Lord Jesus Christ and to our Father in heaven that as many people as possible may read this prayer – whether here and now in this Discourse, or in the actual Bible – and understand what our Lord is saying here. As we have seen above, all those who think they are believing are absolutely lost if they do not believe in Jesus Christ and his redeeming sacrifice on the cross for the sins of all human beings.

And that relates too, and in particular, to those people who state that they "cannot believe". On this very subject the well-known (but sadly now deceased) preacher Wilhelm Busch had some very pertinent things to say:

(…) The second group consists of those who say "I just can’t believe!", but in reality, if they were completely honest, they would have to admit that what they really mean is "I just don’t want to believe!" This is because if they were to come to believe they would have to change their whole lives. And they wouldn’t like that. They know that everything is wrong with their lives. If they were children of God, they would have to come into the light. But no, they don’t want that. Besides, it might make them look silly in the eyes of their colleagues. And what would their nearest and dearest say, if they suddenly became Christians? No, definitely not! So if you come across people who say "I just can’t believe", take a closer look, and see if they shouldn’t really have said "I just don’t want to believe!"

There is a devastating story in the Bible. Here is the Son of God, the Lord Jesus, sitting on the Mount of Olives. In the valley below him is the city of Jerusalem in glorious sunshine. Over there the Mount of the Temple stands, with the glorious Temple built on it, of which even the heathen said that it was an edifice that really had to be counted among the wonders of the world. All this is outspread below him. But all of a sudden, the disciples see to their horror that tears are running down his cheeks. They turn to him in surprise and puzzlement. And then these words break from the Lord Jesus: "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem… how often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling. Now you are confronted with the judgment of God. Behold, your house is being left to you desolate!" (a free quotation from Mt 23,37-38). This is one of the most devastating sayings in the Bible: "But you were unwilling". The people of Jerusalem also doubtless said, "We just cannot believe" – but actually they did not want to.

Look – if you don’t want to believe, you really don’t have to! Can I tell you something? In the church there are still all kinds of compulsions enforced. In the Kingdom of God, there is only an absolute freedom of the will. If you want to live without God, you can do it! God offers himself to us. But we can refuse him. Do you want to live without God? You may. Do you want to live without having made your peace with God? You may. Do you want to live without prayer? You may. Do you want to live without the Bible? You may. Do you want to transgress God’s commandments? You may. Do you want to profane the Lord’s Day, be sexually promiscuous, drink, lie and steal? You may. Anyone who does not want this Savior whom God has sent to save sinners is at liberty to turn him down. Anyone who wants to go to hell can do just that.

With God there are no compulsions. But please be clear on one point – you will have to live with the consequences. In Jesus God offers you peace, and the forgiveness of your sins. You can say, "I don’t need it! And I don’t want it either!" And you may live accordingly. But then you are not to suppose that in the last five minutes of your life, when you are on the point of death, you will still be able to grasp what God has been offering to you for the length of a whole lifetime. You are free to reject God’s offer of peace in Christ Jesus, but then you must live for all eternity without having made your peace with God. And that is hell.

Hell is the place where you have finally and truly succeeded in getting rid of God. You are no longer invited. There is nothing calling you any longer. Perhaps you may want to pray, but you can’t do it any more. Perhaps you may want to call on the name of Jesus, but you can’t remember it any longer. You don’t need to accept this message I have for you. You can forget about converting to belief in Jesus, if that is what you want. But be clear about what you are doing, because you are choosing hell – and you have absolute freedom to do so!

"But you were unwilling!" Jesus tells the people of Jerusalem. He did not compel them in any way. But what they chose was horrible!

In order to get it clear once again what this blessed man of God is saying, in his sermon quoted above:

"With God there are no compulsions. In the Kingdom of God, there is only an absolute freedom of the will."

And so too questions about why God "permits" all these terrible things – like war, murder, crime, fraud, corruption etc. – are being sent to the wrong address. It is not God who permits all this, it is rather human beings who make it all happen, in the complete freedom of will allowed them by God!

If God were to intervene here, human beings would not be perfectly free – they would just be like a puppet on strings. And God doesn’t want to spend eternity with puppets. Every human being can decide freely whether he or she wants to spend this eternity with God, or else end up in hell.

And there are some people who think they will get through it somehow, and when it’s all over, they are just "out of it". They will be annihilated – so they think – and that is the end. But they haven’t read the Bible either, and so are building on sand. Which means that when it comes to the point, they will get the shock of their lives.

The eternal existence of every human being.
